Open AgFarms Map Icons
For the McLaren Vale mapping project we have commissioned a number of icons to map different elements. In addition to the icon, we have assigned each element a mapping type such as point, line string, and boundary. We have also made an attempt at categorising the icon types into:
- Fixed structure
- Hazardous material
- Plant and Infrastructure
- Storage
- Land and land management
About Open AgFarms
Open AgFarms is a Collabriculture Project helping farmers to realise the potential of digial maps.
It is through interoperability, accessible mapping resources, and a shared vocabulary that our whole sector will thrive; but failing to centre farmer convenience and choice in our approach will waste their time, hold them back, and burn trust.
Accurate digital maps are the critical building block for agtech, transforming the wealth of data being collected and curated for and about farms into something that farmers can put to practical use. Yet it is accurate mapping of vineyards that keeps coming up as a critical blocker to agtech onboarding, adoption, and innovation in the sector: this is a message that came through loud and clear in the first round of Collabriculture sessions, and which has been reinforced since in discussions with our industry partners and with growers.
Working from a deep commitment to global open geospatial standards to ensure that farmers have unmediated access to maps of farms, Platfarm’s objective with the Collabriculture Project has been to advance us all towards the goal of vineyard mapping that is commonplace, standardised, and 'FAIR': Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
